“Sembradoras por la ReactivAcción” is a labor inclusion program in which 80% of the beneficiaries are women in vulnerable conditions. It is led by the Ministry of the Environment, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and has the technical support of the Botanical Garden of Bogotá .

This strategy is part of the social and economic rescue program within the framework of the ‘Bogotá Reverdece’ program. It is also part of the international cooperation initiative ‘ReactivAcción’, which seeks to promote recovery and development, improving the socioeconomic conditions of vulnerable populations. Its goal is to generate 1,070 green jobs by March 2023.

“The idea of this strategy is to strengthen environmental organizations in such a way that they create jobs that support women who have been seriously affected by the pandemic. Many of them came from other environmental processes, but many worked in other different topics and have had, through this process, an awareness, an approach and a love for natural resources and green areas,” said Carolina Urrutia, Secretary of the Environment.

This program has contributed to the development of the city with two key results:

The economic recovery of the city, by strengthening the capacities of 20 environmental NGOs in Bogotá and the generation of green employment as an option to acquire new capacities, through activities that promote environmental care and protection.
The recovery of the Main Ecological Structure of Bogotá, considering its environmental configuration, through specific lines related to the management and control of invasive species, gardening in public spaces, the maintenance of urban gardens in the agroecological routes of Bogotá and the maintenance of trees in park areas in the city.

The social and environmental intervention promoted by ‘Sembradoras por la ReactivAcción’ has focused on 14 locations: Usaquén, Chapinero, Santa Fe, San Cristóbal, Usme, Ciudad Bolívar, Tunjuelito, Kennedy, Teusaquillo, Barrios Unidos, Engativá and Suba. In these areas, work has been carried out that contributes to the recovery, conservation and ecological restoration of ecosystems. For the line of maintenance of urban gardens, the goal of strengthening 21 was achieved, which have been managed under an agroecological approach, which seeks sustainable production systems with the least environmental impact.

Currently, the participants of this project have an economic remuneration for the work they do part-time. The Sembradoras por la ReactivAcción agreement will end on March 31, 2023 and, by then, it will have strengthened 20 organizations in 14 locations in Bogotá in rural and urban areas. Likewise, it is expected to have hired 1,070 people.
